The Dutch architect firm Shift Architecture Urbanism have turned a brick wall into a glass wall in Rotterdam.
The house was renovated when a neighbour bought it after being troubled by its neglected condition. The four story house has one apartment in the lower to floors and one apartment in the upper two. The street facade was restored but the garden side of the house was removed and replaced with a glass wall.
The idea was to create an open and light space to live. For the more private rooms, like bedroom and bathroom, they have created boxes. They wanted to make an impressions of a box in a box.
By combining warmer materials and colours with reflective metal, concrete and black steel they get a balance that is harmonic.
